The /tasks page's right-side tick + dynamic Select all / Clear All ⇄
Delete Selected layout now covers the other three management surfaces:
- App detail → Tasks tab: filter bar gains the Clear All button and
master tick; Clear All there scopes to that app's tasks only. The
selection set is resolved through window.tasksManager everywhere —
TasksManager is constructed in several places, and ticks previously
landed on one instance while Delete Selected read another's empty set.
- Apps overview → Updates: the header's Update all button now morphs to
Update Selected (N) + Clear in place as rows are ticked, replacing the
separate selection bar between toolbar and list.
- App detail → Backups: each snapshot row gains Delete + a right-side
tick; a toolbar atop the list morphs Delete All ⇄ Delete Selected (N).
The whole selection rides in ONE task (delete <app> 1:a,2:b,…) since
the backup surfaces hold one task per subject at a time.
- CLI: backup app delete accepts comma-separated <idx>:<snap> pairs, and
both delete and delete_all now regenerate the WebUI backup JSON so
deleted snapshots leave the screen instead of lingering until the next
backup.

Three visible faults on the Tasks page, one shared root.
Upgrade tasks rendered as their raw command — "libreportal updater
upgrade rocketchat 8.7.1" beside properly named neighbours. The title
table had rows for updater check/apply/apply-all/rollback and none for
upgrade, because the upgrade command is assembled in task-actions.js
rather than task-commands.js — and lp-task-names, the guard built to
catch exactly this, only read task-commands.js. It certified 16 commands
and reported that as the whole surface; the surface was 29. The guard
now reads both dispatch sites (JS ${expr} interpolations become sample
placeholders; commented-out prose mentioning commands in backticks is
skipped, or it reports fictional commands), and all 29 pass.
A removed instance's tasks outlive it, and its slug rendered as a tech
identifier: "Bookstack_uitest - Remove Instance". getAppDisplayName
cannot help — it capitalises as its own fallback, so unknown is
indistinguishable from known-and-plain. The formatter now does the same
membership test the helper uses internally: slug absent from
window.apps, prefix before the underscore present -> render the way
live instances are shown, "Bookstack · uitest".
Same story for the icon: bookstack_uitest.svg is deleted with the
instance, and onerror="display:none" left a bare gap in the row. Now a
fallback chain — the TYPE's icon (which survives), then the LibrePortal
logo. Verified live: the dead instance's rows show bookstack.svg with
the fallback marker set, everything else keeps its own icon.
Verified in a real browser session — full render, zero console errors.
The 'add' verb also joins the app-action map so "Add Application" is
deliberate wording rather than the blind "<Verb> Application" compose.

Task titles come from one declarative table in formatCommandForUser, whose final
fallback is the raw command string. Five of the sixteen command shapes the WebUI
dispatches had no row and hit that fallback, so they showed as
"libreportal instance remove bookstack_work" where a backup shows as
"Bookstack - Create Backup". Cross-checked every shape in task-commands.js
against the real formatter rather than fixing only the reported one:
instance create -> Bookstack - New Instance (work)
instance remove -> Bookstack · work - Remove Instance
system status -> LibrePortal - System Status
system update -> LibrePortal - System Update
system reset -> LibrePortal - Reset System
Instance create is named off the TYPE rather than the new slug: at create time
the instance is not in window.apps yet, so displayName() would fall back to
capitalising the slug and render "Bookstack_work".
Four more were not raw but read badly, because the generic
"<Action> Application" fallback has no entry for the compose verbs: up and down
rendered as "Up Application" and "Down Application". Now Start/Stop Containers,
Reload Application and Check Status. And per-service restart collapsed to
"Restart Application", losing the only thing that distinguished it — it now
names the service.
All seventeen shapes verified through the real formatter: zero fall through.
Instance removal also finishes properly now. It skipped the button lockout a
normal uninstall applies, so the instance's Config/Tools/Backups tabs stayed
live against an app being torn down underneath them; it now makes the same
disableAppButtons call executeUninstall does. And it bounced to the TYPE's
Config page, hiding the very task the click had just started — it now lands on
the removed instance's own Tasks tab.
Verified by driving the WebUI: creating an instance files a task titled
"Bookstack - New Instance (uitest)", removing it lands on
/app/bookstack_uitest/tasks, and disableAppButtons flips all five app tabs from
enabled to disabled. Test instance removed afterwards.

Running a tool from the Tools tab raised two full-size toasts around a few
seconds of work — "task started!" as the run began and "task completed!" as
it ended — and then opened the result modal that actually carried the answer.
The started one was stale by the time it was read and the finished one said
what the modal was already showing.
Tool tasks now go through LP_BACKGROUND_TASKS with a new `silent` flag (no
started toast, no finish line), and tools-manager raises a compact
"Running <tool>…" spinner toast for the duration instead, dismissed the
moment the result modal or the user list opens.
A failed list_users now falls through to the result modal too — it has no
account list to open, and the completion toast that used to report the
failure is gone.
The app-scoped Tasks tab never sorted. It rendered straight from
tasksManager.tasks and relied on loadTasks() having ordered it, so any path that
appends after the load — a task arriving from the event bus, a retry, a queue
merge — put that task wherever it happened to land rather than at the top. Sort
where the list is rendered instead of trusting it from three callers away.
Honest note on the reported symptom: a list_users task appearing mid-list could
not be reproduced from the stored records — replaying the sort over all 96 task
files puts the newest tool tasks first. What is demonstrably wrong is the
missing sort above, and a second latent fault it would mask: 8 of those 96
records carry a null createdAt (cron-created backups), and `new Date(null)` is
the epoch, so they sort as if from 1970 rather than as unknown.
Adds window.taskSortTime for that: createdAt when it parses, otherwise the
timestamp already embedded in the task id — the WebUI mints
task_<epoch_ms>_<rand> and the backend task_<epoch_s>_<hex>, distinguishable by
digit count. All three sorts now use it, so the global list, the app list and
the loader agree.
The filter bar is client-side over the already-loaded per-app array, so it is
instant and needs no reload: status chips (built from the statuses actually
present, with counts, so a chip can never return zero) plus a search over the
command and the task id — the id being what a deep link and a log URL both
carry, so pasting one finds it.

Puts the stepped engine behind the "34 available" chip so it is not
CLI-only. Wired end to end: updater_upgrade task type -> task-router ->
updaterUpgrade action -> `libreportal updater upgrade <app> [version]`,
with a label and icon in the tasks list.
The button always confirms, and the dialog states the plan and the
guarantee rather than asking "are you sure?" — which app, from which
version to which, that every step snapshots first and waits for the app
to confirm it is serving with no migration outstanding, that a failure
stops the ladder on the last version that verified, and that it can take
a long time because each release runs its own migration.
Both delegated dispatchers (per-app Updates tab and the fleet Overview
rows) learn the action, so the button works wherever the chip appears.

The task-log "Loading logs..." state rendered as a bare left-aligned text
line (or a tiny ad-hoc 16px spinner overlay), which read as unfinished next
to the rest of the UI. Swap all three log-loading spots (initial placeholder,
toggle-open fetch, running-task stream placeholder) to the canonical
window.lpLoadingBox('Loading logs…'), and scope .lp-loading inside the log
terminal box to fill it and drop its own card chrome so the spinner sits dead
centre over the terminal surface instead of a box-in-a-box. Widen the stream
overlay-removal selector to also clear .lp-loading.

Previously retry silently created a new task, left the failed one in place with
no link, and didn't take you to the retry. Now:
- The new task is linked to the failed one via `retryOf`; the server stamps the
original `retriedBy` and KEEPS it (its log is the failure record — never
deleted), so history survives and there's no confusing bare duplicate.
- The failed row shows a muted "↻ Retried" pill, hides its now-stale Retry
button, and offers "View retry" to jump to the new run. The new run shows a
"Retry of:" backlink to the original.
- After retrying, the UI selects the new task and opens its live log so you
follow the retry instead of hunting for it.
retryOf rides through the existing POST /api/tasks (no new endpoint); createTask
gained an optional extra-body arg.

"Control plane" is jargon. Rename the self-heal task and de-jargon all the
user-facing copy: task titles ("LibrePortal - Fix System Issues" / "System
Health Check"), the action label, the badge/banner/panel text and "Fix now"
button, the status summaries, and the heal task-log messages. Behaviour
unchanged; code comments keep the technical term where accurate.

The task-list row only paints the LibrePortal app-logo for commands matched by
isLibrePortalSystemTask's whitelist (appless tasks otherwise get just the type
icon, so arbitrary custom commands don't get a spurious logo). `libreportal
system health/network heal|check` weren't in it — only `system reclaim|image` —
so the heal rows showed a bare function icon instead of the logo like "Check for
Updates". Add health|network to the whitelist.

Crash-loop detection keyed on `docker ps --filter status=restarting`, but a
backed-off loop sits "exited" between restarts once docker's backoff grows to
tens of seconds — so a slowed loop is missed. Detect via RestartCount CLIMBING
between scans (what a crash loop actually is), unioned with the instantaneous
restarting signal for fast loops. Baseline counts persist in
.health_restart_counts, written only by the throttled check so the heal's
re-scans don't disturb the delta.
Also give the system_health_heal / system_network_heal tasks proper display
(they fell through to the raw command + generic ⚙️): friendly titles in
formatCommandForUser, type icons (🩺 / 🌐) in getTaskTypeIcon, and action
labels in formatActionTitle — so they read as "LibrePortal - Repair Control
Plane" etc. with an icon, like install tasks.

A background task like the updater check surfaces its result in the page it was
launched from (the Updates/Overview tab repaints itself), yet it still fired the
full "View Task" pair — "Check task started!" then "Check task completed!" —
on top of the launcher's own small "Checking apps for updates…" line. Three
notifications for something you have no reason to open the Tasks page for.
Add a small, generic classifier (LP_BACKGROUND_TASKS) keyed by task action/type
(with a command regex that also catches the backend `updater check auto` run).
For a classified task:
- executeTask() skips the standard "task started!" toast and, when the run is
hand-launched, records its id as pending.
- the taskCompleted handler skips the standard "task completed!" toast; if the
id was pending (user launched it) it shows one small plain result line
("Apps checked for updates & vulnerabilities."), otherwise stays silent so
the periodic auto-scan makes no noise at all.
Non-background tasks are unaffected — the standard task-notification style still
applies. Extend byAction to quiet another self-surfacing action.

The grid now also reads apps/generated/registry_catalog.json (optional
data: any failure = no registry cards, never a broken grid) and renders
signed-catalog apps that have no local definition as "Available — Add"
cards: indigo Available pill, teal Official trust badge, and an Add button
that dispatches the app_add task (task-actions/router/format wired). Local
definitions always win on a slug collision; registry cards sort last and
are excluded from the Installed view. No detail page until Add lands the
definition — then the card becomes a normal Install card, repainted by the
app_add branch in the task-completion handler without a manual refresh.

App-less system tasks (verify, regen, …) resolved to an empty displayName
and null icon in _taskNotificationDescriptor, so their completion toast
rendered an empty <strong></strong><br> — a blank bold line that showed as
a random gap above the message — and had no icon, unlike every other
notification. Treat any task with no app slug as a system task so it gets
the 'LibrePortal' subject and libreportal.svg icon.

autoExpandTask (the monitorTask path) opened its row directly without
collapsing the others and never set highlightedTaskId — unlike every
other opener (toggleTaskDetails, selectTask), which enforce a single
open row. So a burst of monitored task creations, e.g. a multi-app
first install, stacked every panel open at once.
Wait for the row to render, then delegate to selectTask, which collapses
any other open panel, sets highlightedTaskId, attaches the right log
view (live stream vs snapshot) and scrolls into view. Setting
highlightedTaskId also makes monitorTask's own guard trip after the
first task, so the running-task auto-follow takes over from there.

The global tasks page still deep-linked a single task with a ?task=<id>
query while the rest of the SPA moved to path-based permalinks
(/app/<name>, /admin/<…>). Bring it in line: the task is now a path
segment, /tasks/<category>/<id>.
Task ids are guaranteed `task_<digits>_<base36>` (isValidTaskId), so the
redundant `task_` prefix is dropped in the URL and restored on read via a
new window.taskPath / window.taskPartsFromPath helper pair (mirrors
appPath/appPartsFromPath). The parser still accepts the legacy ?task=
query and the full-prefixed id, so old links, bookmarks and notifications
keep resolving.
Updated every builder (tasks-manager updateURL + notification url,
task-id link, task-actions, admin config-form, setup-wizard handoff with
its &from=setup flag) and the notification navigation handler / button
text to recognise the path form.

Landing on /tasks (directly, via a deep link, or from the setup-wizard
handoff) now opens the row the visit is actually about:
- init() re-reads the URL on every SPA (re)mount, so ?task= deep links
work after the first visit instead of using constructor-stale state.
- applyInitialSelection() opens the deep-linked task, or — for setup
handoffs whose first task the queue has already moved past, and for
plain visits with no deep link — the currently running task (else the
next queued one).
- The selection then follows the queue: when a new task starts running
the open panel moves with it, until the user manually toggles a row
or switches category (their choice then wins for the visit).
- selectTask() is the shared programmatic open: exclusive expand, live
log stream for active tasks, smooth scroll into view.

Surfaces the hotfix channel in the WebUI. Primary home is the Updates &
Improvements page (the updater component) — its own "Improvements" tab — with a
secondary chip on the App detail page (fork 3 locality = both).
Updater component (components/updater):
- New "Improvements" sidebar tab + panel; renderImprovements() reads the host-
generated artifacts_available.json (severity badge, scope chip, applied/auto/
not-applicable badges, plain-English why). Apply/Revert buttons dispatch
artifact_apply / artifact_revert through the TASK system (services.tasks.route)
— no mutating API. Apply is disabled when the index is UNSIGNED.
- Overview gains an "Improvements" stat card; task-refresh now also repaints on
artifact_* task completion; URL tab routing + dispose teardown extended.
Task plumbing (core/tasks): artifactApply/artifactRevert action methods (id is
charset-guarded before it enters the command string) + artifact_apply/
artifact_revert routeAction cases. Task list/format gain icons + friendly labels.
Apps component: an amber "⚡ N improvements" chip on an installed app's detail
header (populated async from artifacts_available.json filtered by app, applicable
& not-applied), linking to /updater/improvements. Best-effort, never throws.

The teardown audit found the backup-stacking leak class across 4 more feature
modules (12 confirmed leaks); unmount() left document/window listeners, intervals,
and SSE subscriptions firing on stale controllers after navigation:
- admin: overview/ssh/peers/system each leaked a document click listener ->
AbortController + dispose() per page; admin unmount() aborts each.
- dashboard: the 1 Hz update-countdown interval + the LiveSystem view sub ->
stopUpdateCountdown()/detachDashboardLive(), registered via ctx.sub().
- tasks: constructor-started global live-log poller (discarded handle) -> stored
+ idempotent + cleared on unmount + re-armed on mount; per-task monitorTask
window listeners + interval -> tracked in a map, released on unmount.
- apps: app-tabbed reconcile setTimeout loop + watchdog window/document listeners
+ popstate -> per-instance AbortController + dispose() that clears the timer,
resets the guards, and unloads the active tab's Services intervals + log SSE.
All mirror the kernel's MountContext teardown discipline. 12 files, all pass
node --check. Backup (fixed earlier) re-confirmed clean by the audit.

updater_check/apply/apply_all/rollback tasks fell through every per-type
branch of the Tasks panel, so they showed the generic custom gear icon, a
raw/truncated command title, and (for the app:'updater' sentinel) a broken
hidden app icon. Wired them in like every other task type:
- tasks-format.js formatCommandForUser PATTERNS: added the 'libreportal updater'
command rows (Apps - Check for Updates / Update All / <App> - Update /
<App> - Roll Back) — only the *self*-update 'libreportal update' was mapped.
- tasks-format.js formatActionTitle: added the updater_* short labels.
- tasks-list-render.js getTaskTypeIcon: updater_check 🔍 / apply ⬆️ /
apply_all ⬆️ / rollback ↩️ (reusing existing verify/update/restore classes).
- tasks-list-render.js renderTaskIcons: treat app:'updater' as a sentinel like
app:'system' so updater_check/apply_all fall back to the LibrePortal logo
instead of a 404'd /core/icons/apps/updater.svg (apply/rollback keep their
real app icon).

The shipped frontend carried ~600 muted '// console.…' debug statements (and
their multi-line commented continuation lines) left over from development —
clutter across 30 files. Removed them with a guarded pass that ONLY ever deletes
lines starting with // (so it can never alter behaviour), consuming each
commented console opener plus its continuation comment lines until the
string-stripped parens balance.
665 lines removed, 30 files; 0 insertions. Verified every deleted line is a //
comment (no code touched), real prose comments preserved, full node --check
sweep clean.

From the feng-shui audit naming findings:
- admin/overview/js/admin-overview.js -> overview-page.js (class AdminOverview ->
OverviewPage, window globals + the 'admin-overview' task-refresh id ->
overview-page, lazy-load path + typeof/new in config-manager.js).
- admin/system/js/admin-system.js -> system-page.js (class AdminSystem ->
SystemPage; now sits beside its -page sub-views system-metric-page.js /
system-storage-page.js).
- tasks/js/tasks-logs-modal.js -> tasks-log-modal.js (singular 'log' to match its
sibling tasks-log-stream.js; single path ref in system-loader.js).
These were the only page controllers breaking the dominant <thing>-page.js /
<Thing>Page convention (ssh-page/peers-page/backup-page/updater-page/
system-metric-page/system-storage-page). Pure renames; node --check clean.

Faithful brace-aware split of tasks-manager.js (2664->491 line base) into
list-render, data-load, log-stream, row-expand, actions, modals, logs-modal,
format — augmenting TasksManager.prototype. First removed 4 provably-dead
duplicate defs (the earlier init/setupAutoRefresh/startLogStreaming/loadTaskLogs
that the later defs already overrode — behavior-preserving). Methods relocated
verbatim via a brace-aware Node extractor (handles strings/templates/comments/
regex, fixing the line-heuristic over-capture). Verified: all 60 (deduped)
methods present exactly once, no dups, all 9 files node --check clean. Wired
after the base in the task-system loader (async=false-ordered).

De-clutter each component into sub-system folders (apps: core/ port-manager/
services/ tools/ routing/; admin: config/ overview/ system/ ssh/ peers/) with
the standard js/ css/ html/ icons/ layout inside; single-page components
(backup/dashboard/tasks/updater) get js/ css/ html/. Single-feature icon sets
moved into their sub-system (vpn -> apps/core/icons, config/cpu/os ->
admin/{config,system}/icons); shared app + category icons stay in core/icons.
feature.json + index.js stay at each component root (the scanned descriptor +
entry). Every controller/CSS/fragment/icon path reference rewritten; verified
no stale refs, all JS valid.
