Running any tool jumped to the Tasks tab and left the user stranded there. That
is right for an install — long, log-heavy, worth watching — and wrong for a
tool, which is a short admin action whose answer is one line. Worse, half of
these are only meaningful back on Tools: List Users opens a modal over that tab,
and Create User Account returns a generated password that was being buried in a
log the user then had to go read.
Tools now stay put. On completion the tool's own outcome lines — the
isSuccessful/isError/isNotice output, ANSI stripped and framework boilerplate
filtered — are shown in a small result modal, with a View log button for
anything needing the full detail. list_users is left alone because the existing
account-list modal is already a better result view.
Also stops generate_arrays.sh walking scripts/dev. That directory is
`export-ignore`d, so it exists in a working clone but never in a shipped
install; generating a files_dev.sh entry from it wrote a reference into
files_source.sh that no install could satisfy, and the loader treats a missing
array file as a broken installation — every libreportal command stopped with
"files_dev.sh is missing from your LibrePortal Installation". Excluded alongside
unused/, system/ and release/. Regenerating also picked up scripts/validation,
which had never had an array file.
And Matrix's account listing prints its aligned line from python rather than
re-splitting the marker line in bash: TAB is IFS whitespace, so an empty display
name collapsed into the previous delimiter and shifted every later column.

Every install before the mirror target was corrected registered the bouncer but
never recorded its key, and cscli cannot show an existing bouncer's key — so
those installs had no route back to the value except re-registering, which
invalidates the key Traefik is already using.
The EXISTS branch now reads the key back from /etc/crowdsec/traefik_bouncer.key
when the config has none. That file is deliberately left owned by the manager at
0600 by libreportal-crowdsec, so this layer can read it without another
privileged round trip.
Restructured so both branches share one mirror, gated on the value actually
differing — a healthy reinstall now writes nothing instead of rewriting the same
key each time.
Exercised all six paths against the shipped block: fresh generation writes the
key; registered-with-empty-config recovers it; in-sync writes nothing; missing
and empty key files each explain what to do rather than failing silently; a cscli
error is unchanged. The masking added alongside holds throughout — the log shows
"Updated CFG_CROWDSEC_TRAEFIK_LAPI_KEY" with no value.

crowdsec_install_host.sh wrote CFG_CROWDSEC_TRAEFIK_LAPI_KEY into
${configs_dir}security/security_crowdsec, but no such template ships in
configs/security/ (only security_logins and security_ssh), so
checkConfigFilesMissingFiles never created it, the -f guard always failed, and
the key was never mirrored — every install logged "Live config not present yet"
and the setting stayed empty. The key is declared in crowdsec.config, so point
the write there.
Switched the hand-rolled sed for updateConfigOption, which escapes the value,
routes the write through the user owning the containers tree, and re-sources so
the key is live in the same run. The old sed used | as its delimiter and would
have corrupted the file on a key containing one; verified the new path
round-trips a key with + / and | intact.
updateConfigOption logged "Updated <key> to <value>", and checkSuccess both
prints its message and appends it to the docker log — so mirroring the bouncer
key would have written it to disk in plaintext, as every admin password the auth
adapters persist already was. Credential-looking keys now log the name only;
everything else still logs its value, which is what makes that log useful.

Same sweep as AUTH_PROFILE, run across all 110 key suffixes in the app configs.
CFG_GITEA_ADMIN_EMAIL and CFG_INVIDIOUS_ADMIN_EMAIL: both apps' auth adapters
take an email argument for createUser but never read or persist the config key,
so it sat empty forever. bookstack, mattermost and rocketchat do read theirs;
these two were copies that never got wired.
CFG_CROWDSEC_AUTO_UPDATE: superseded by UPDATE_TYPE (auto|manual), which crowdsec
also declares. The only AUTO_UPDATE readers left are CFG_GIT_AUTO_UPDATE and
CFG_REQUIREMENT_CONFIGS_AUTO_UPDATE, neither of them per-app.
Not removed, because each is a gap in the code rather than a key to delete, and
deleting would cement the bug: CFG_CROWDSEC_HOST_SERVICE (documented as the unit
stop/restart hits, but only HOST_SERVICES is ever read), CFG_CROWDSEC_LAPI_HOST
and CFG_CROWDSEC_BOUNCER_NAME_TRAEFIK (the bouncer name is hardcoded in
crowdsec_install_host.sh, so editing the setting does nothing).

Nine LONG_DESCRIPTION values had drifted well past the 90-140 char
range the rest of the catalog uses (stoat was 407). Cut them back
while keeping the caveats that matter — Rocket.Chat's user cap,
Stoat's resource weight, Matrix federation.

Adds the decision half of the app updater. Detection (P2) and the
snapshot-first apply/revert (P3) were already real, but nothing ever
pressed the button — every update waited for a click.
CFG_<APP>_UPDATE_TYPE=auto|manual per app, default auto (33 templates)
CFG_UPDATER_AUTO=true|false master switch, default true
updaterAppPolicy resolves the two the way backupResolveStrategy already
resolves backup strategy: the global switch can only make things more
manual. updaterApplyAuto runs at the end of `updater check` and enqueues
the ordinary updater_apply task for each auto app that has an update —
never applies inline, so an automatic update is the same code path, task
log, History entry and Roll back button as a manual one.
Safety: each attempt stamps its target digest under generated/auto/, so a
build that fails is rolled back and then left alone rather than retried on
every scan; in-flight updater tasks are skipped so scans can't stack.
Tracked end to end: updates.json carries each app's resolved update_type,
History entries carry trigger=manual|auto. The WebUI says whether updates
install themselves, chips only the apps that opted out, labels automatic
history, and — since an auto app's pending update needs no decision — keeps
it off the Overview board's "Needs action" view.
Also fixes artifactApplyAuto enqueueing without --detach: it runs inside
the single-threaded task processor's own poll, so following the new task in
the foreground waits for a task that cannot start until it returns.

'local result=$(cmd)' resets $? to 0 (the local builtin's own exit), so the
following checkSuccess always saw success regardless of cmd's real exit — the
mechanism that masked the de-sudo write failures. Split declaration from
assignment ('local result; result=$(cmd)') across all 235 active-code sites
(84 files) so the command's exit reaches checkSuccess. No behaviour change
beyond $? now being accurate (no set -e in runtime code; multi-line
assignments transform safely).

CrowdSec's host-side install (the agent + nftables bouncer the LibrePortal
Traefik plugin talks to) had stayed on blanket sudo throughout the rootless +
de-sudo hardening: `sudo apt-get install crowdsec`, `curl | sudo bash`,
`sudo sed -i /etc/crowdsec/config.yaml`, `sudo touch + sudo chmod /var/log/
crowdsec*.log`, `echo $key | sudo tee /etc/crowdsec/traefik_bouncer.key`,
plus `sudo cscli capi register / console enroll / bouncers add`. None of
those are in the scoped LP_HELPERS / LP_SYSTEM sudoers grant the manager
now holds, so any user who enabled crowdsec would have hit hard sudo
failures on every privileged step.
Follow the libreportal-appcfg / libreportal-bininstall pattern: one new
root-owned helper at /usr/local/lib/libreportal/libreportal-crowdsec
that does every privileged op behind a fixed action vocabulary with strict
argument validation. The manager calls in via runCrowdsec — the scoped
sudoers grants exactly one binary, the same trust boundary the other
helpers rely on.

install, with safe runtime fallbacks if unbaked)
- new runCrowdsec dispatch in scripts/docker/command/run_privileged.sh
containers/crowdsec/scripts/crowdsec_install_host.sh now drives the whole
flow through runCrowdsec — every `sudo …` is gone, the compose-toggle sed
uses runFileOp, and the security_crowdsec CFG mirror uses runInstallOp
(configs/ is manager-owned). Net: install script shrinks ~80 lines while
gaining a single auditable trust boundary. crowdsec_fix_priority.sh swung
over to runCrowdsec bouncer-priority too — the appcfg crowdsec_priority
action drops out cleanly.

Replace the central app-name if-ladder in app_update_specifics.sh with a generic
dispatcher: each app ships containers/<app>/scripts/<app>_update_specifics.sh
defining appUpdateSpecifics_<app> (live-sourced by the container scan, dispatched
by `declare -F` — same pattern as tools). A hook may set shouldrestart=true. Apps
with no specifics ship no hook.
- Move the adguard/pihole (DNS updater), dashy (conf refresh), focalboard (nobody
ownership + restart), and libreportal (webui regen) branches to per-app hooks.
- Move scripts/gluetun/gluetun_route_apps.sh -> containers/gluetun/scripts/
(scripts/gluetun/ removed).
- Move scripts/install/install_crowdsec.sh -> containers/crowdsec/scripts/
crowdsec_install_host.sh; fix the path note in crowdsec.sh.
- Regenerate arrays (moved files drop out; the per-app files are container-scanned,
not arrayed).
Dispatch verified with stubs: adguard/pihole/dashy/focalboard/libreportal behave
identically to the old ladder (incl. shouldrestart propagation), apps without a
hook are a clean no-op. The CLI itself had no per-app branches — app-specific CLI
is already the (now fully modular) tools system.

Each app now carries everything under containers/<app>/: Tools-tab actions in
tools/ (declaration <app>.tools.json + function <app>_<tool_id>.sh) and logic
helpers in scripts/ (e.g. <app>_auth.sh). The container scan live-sources every
.sh under the app (maxdepth 3, prunes only resources/) and webui_tools.sh
auto-merges the .tools.json, so an app is a true drop-in — no central edit, no
array regen.
- Empty the central webui_tools.sh heredoc; all 34 tools across 11 apps now
come from per-app declarations (verified byte-identical to the old output).
- Retire the orphaned mattermost tool scripts to scripts/unused (there is no
containers/mattermost; its install fn already lived in unused).
- Update the dispatch comment/error path, the auth-adapter doc, and
DEVELOPMENT.md to the new convention.
- Regenerate static arrays (files_app.sh no longer lists app/containers/*).

Every backup-scope app now carries CFG_<APP>_BACKUP_STRATEGY=auto, so the
Backup Strategy dropdown appears in each app's Advanced tab — not just the
DB apps.
To keep it honest, the 'live' option is hidden where it isn't safe:
- apps.json generator emits backup_live_capable per app (from compose backup
labels: a dumpable DB, or a live-safe marker).
- apps-manager filters the live option out of the strategy select when the
current app isn't live-capable, so apps like gitea/focalboard (a DB we don't
yet dump) never offer it.
