2d5674108b setup: registering a drive made it disappear from the Storage step
storage.json carries two lists: `candidates`, drives that could be added, and
`locations`, the ones already registered. The wizard read only the first. So a
drive vanished from Storage the moment it was registered — the step fell back to
"Only one drive found, so everything goes here" on a box with three, and because
the two root dropdowns only render when there is more than one option, the
choice they exist to offer disappeared with it.

A registered location is the clearest case of a usable drive there is. Read both
lists, deduplicated by path since one can appear in both while a registration
settles.

The generator's location entries carried no size or free figures either, so
those cards rendered as "free of" with both numbers missing next to a system
disk that had them. They now carry size, free, fstype and used_pct like the
system entry, and the card shows the name the user chose rather than the raw
path.

Found by the flow test: three registered locations, three apps placed across
them, and a Storage step insisting there was one drive.

56cd6e7fa4 storage: choose which drive an app installs onto
The resolver already supported per-app placement — CFG_<APP>_STORAGE names a
location and appDir sends data, compose and config there — and 37 of 39 app
templates ship the field. What was missing was choosing AT INSTALL TIME. The
only routes were editing a config by hand before installing, or installing onto
the default disk and then `app move`ing it, which copies the data twice.

    libreportal app install <app> --storage=<location>

and the App Center's existing storage dropdown, which travels inside
config_variables. Both resolve to one answer in storageChoiceFor, so there is a
single code path.

Ordering is the whole difficulty, and getting it wrong is quiet. installApp
copies the app template into appDir(), sources it, and later applies the form
overrides. The choice has to be live before the copy (or the directory is
created on the wrong disk), written into the config before the source (or the
template's "default" wins and every later appDir in that process returns the
primary root), and folded into config_variables (or the override pass writes
"default" back). Miss any one and the directory and its config disagree — which
resolves correctly only until something sources the config.

Refuses an unknown or unmounted location, an existing directory, and an app
whose template marks the field **READONLY** (fixed to the primary root because
other apps reach it by literal path — storageMoveApp already refuses to move
those, and installing one elsewhere is the same violation from the other end).

Three shipped bugs found making this work:

  * updateConfigOption chose its write helper by comparing the path against
    $containers_dir — the PRIMARY root only — so an app on any other registered
    location took the manager branch and `sed -i` failed with exactly the
    permission error the comment above that code describes. `app move` writes
    the new location with `|| true`, so it reported a successful move while
    leaving the config naming the old disk.
  * storageLocationName resolved a location's name only from an in-scope
    CFG_STORAGE_LOC_<id>_NAME, falling back to the bare id. That name is the
    value CFG_<APP>_STORAGE is set to, so the generated dropdown offered
    "location-1" as both label and value — a choice that does not resolve. Read
    it from the location's config when the variable is not in scope.
  * storageSyncAllAppComments was written for "the regen path" and never wired
    into one. Every CFG_<APP>_STORAGE option list was frozen at install time, so
    adding a drive did not make it selectable anywhere. Called from the storage
    generator now, which runs exactly when those lists go stale — and extended
    to app TEMPLATES, since an app not installed yet is precisely the one whose
    install form needs to show which drives exist.

Verified on a live install with three locations: linkding and authelia on disk1,
ipinfo on disk2, fourteen on the default root, each config naming its own drive.

7ed8539af7 setup: stop calling the app-data drive "System disk" when it is not
The wizard's Storage step builds its first entry from primaryRoot() — the
app-data root — and labelled it "System disk". On a default install those are
the same drive and the name is honest. Installed with --containers-dir on its
own disk they are not, and the step then showed the DATA drive's size under the
system disk's name while the actual system disk never appeared in the list.

Seen on a matrix case-2 install (apps on a 29.4G test disk, system on a 912G
root): "System disk — 26.7G free of 29.4G".

The generator now reports whether that root is really on the OS disk
(is_os_disk, by st_dev against /), and the wizard labels it from that: "System
disk" when they coincide, otherwise the mount point. The "system" badge stays —
it marks the default location, which is still what it is.

Also add lp-shot --token / --cookie-js. A screenshot answers "does it render";
"does this wizard step work" needs clicking, which needs a real browser, which
needs the session lp-shot already knows how to mint from the stored jwtSecret.
This bug was found that way.

e101764085 feat(setup): drop the filesystem type, show capacity as free-of-total + a bar
The card said "911.9G · 808.4G free · ext4". The filesystem type is a
Details row, not something you choose a drive on, so it goes.

On percentage vs size: which one matters depends on the question. This
step asks "will my data fit?", and absolute free space is what decides
that — a 4 GB disk that is 89% free is still useless for a media library.
Percentage answers "is this filling up?", a health signal rather than a
placement one. So the text carries the magnitude ("808.4G free of 911.9G")
and a thin bar carries the proportion, which is what the eye reads
fastest, with no second number competing with the first.

The bar fills with FREE space, not used. Filling by usage made a healthy
7%-full disk render as an almost-empty track that read as a broken widget
— and it pointed the opposite way to the text beside it. Filled = room to
spare, draining = filling up, matching the words. It turns amber below
25% free and red below 10%.

d8c9f2486b feat(setup): show the system disk, and slim the drive cards to one line
Three changes to the Storage step.

The system disk is now a first-class entry — pinned first, ticked, and
locked, since apps fall back to it and it therefore cannot be deselected.
Its Details work like any other drive's, which is the whole point on a
single-disk box: the step now answers "where does my data actually go?"
instead of being skipped and answering nothing. The step is consequently
unconditional; the note changes to explain that no other drives were
found rather than the step vanishing.

The system entry is excluded from the submitted payload — it is already
the primary root, and asking the helper to register it would (correctly)
be refused for nesting.

Cards are one line again. Listing every warning under each drive pushed
them to three lines and made the step tall for no gain: the badge already
carries severity and Details carries the explanation. The note now says
to open Details for the reason rather than claiming it is on the card.

Badge colours were dark-on-light, which against the wizard's mid-blue
glass read as muddy grey — the "needs care" pill in particular. Switched
to light-on-dark, legible without shouting over the drive name.

Verified with lp-shot in both states: system disk alone, and system disk
plus a second drive.

7eb6d36d55 feat(storage): readable drive cards, a details modal, and an fstab offer
The Storage step was a technical dump: every check's full sentence
concatenated onto the card, so the fstab line the user is meant to act on
was buried in prose nobody reads.

The card now shows plain facts and at most two short flags — "Low on
space · Won't be mounted after a reboot" — with everything else behind a
Details button. The modal carries the technical spec (device, UUID, mount
options, removable), every check with its full explanation, and the
fstab offer.

That needed the shell to stop joining checks into one string: the
generator emits a record per check, plus the fstab line as its own field,
so neither the card nor the modal has to parse anything back out of the
other.

The screenshot caught a bug this restructure introduced: summaries keyed
on check id alone, so a PASSING check printed the failure wording next to
a green tick — "This drive's format can't store file ownership" above
"Filesystem: ext4". Now severity-aware.

On writing /etc/fstab — §1 ruled it out and §6.3 now records why that
reverses. The warning is useless to the audience this is for: "add this
line to fstab" assumes SSH, root, an editor, and knowing what fstab is,
and the likely outcome is a reboot where nothing starts. What makes it
defensible is nofail + x-systemd.device-timeout, which mean a missing
device can never block boot — without that pair it would stay a non-goal,
because the failure being risked (an unbootable machine) is worse than
the one being fixed.

Enforced in the root helper: UUID never /dev/sdX, append inside a marked
block, refuse a target or UUID already described, refuse the root
filesystem, require a live mount, timestamped backup, and
`findmnt --verify` before the file is installed — a file that doesn't
parse never reaches /etc. Opt-in only.

Verified against a real filesystem: entry added and verifies, the
persistence warning then disappears on the next scan, and duplicate /
root-fs / non-mountpoint / relative are each refused with the reason.

f5238f21ca feat(setup): wire storage data into regen, split candidate warnings
webuiGenerateStorageCandidates now runs as part of webuiSystemUpdate, so
frontend/data/storage.json exists without anyone remembering to generate
it — the wizard reads it to decide whether its Storage step appears, and
the Disks view reads the same file, so the two can never disagree.

Warnings arrive from the shell joined with "; ". Rendering that verbatim
produced one run-on paragraph that buried the fstab line the user is
supposed to copy, so the card splits them back onto separate lines.

Verified on the live install with lp-shot: with one filesystem the wizard
shows "Step 1 of 4" and the Storage step is correctly absent; with a
second filesystem attached it becomes "Step 4 of 5" with the drive
carrying a "needs care" badge and both warnings legible. That also
exercises the visible-step mapping in both directions.

cea653f67b feat(setup): Storage step in the first-run wizard
Phase 3 of docs/roadmap/storage-locations.md.

The step appears only when the candidate scan finds a filesystem
LibrePortal isn't already using, so the single-disk case — which is most
boxes — is completely unchanged. It sits before Recommended because a
location has to exist before an app can be placed on it.

Supporting two conditional steps meant the wizard could no longer treat
'position in the DOM' and 'step index' as the same number: Metrics was
advanced-only and got away with 'length minus one', but a step hidden in
the MIDDLE leaves a gap. Navigation, progress, validation and submit now
all run off _visibleSteps(), and section matching is by data-step rather
than DOM position.

Unusable candidates render greyed WITH the reason rather than being
filtered out — 'why isn't my drive listed?' is a support burden, and
'exFAT can't store file ownership' is actionable. The step is skipped
only when nothing usable was found at all.

What the wizard sends is a request, not an instruction: setupApplyConfig
feeds each path through storageAdd, so the fitness checks and the root
helper's admission rules both re-run regardless of what arrived in the
payload.

2d24a764a8 refactor(storage): route elevation tests and the WebUI tree through paths.sh
Two mechanical sweeps, no behaviour change on a single-root install.

The 14 `[[ "$p" == "$containers_dir"* ]]` prefix tests that decide
manager-vs-container-user elevation become pathIsContainerData, so a file
on a second storage root is no longer misclassified as manager-owned —
which would have written it with the wrong owner and failed later, far
from the cause. The 65 references to the WebUI's own tree become
webuiDir(), which is pinned to the primary root by design.

Two traps found while doing it:

run_privileged.sh is sourced directly by init.sh without paths.sh, so it
needs a fallback. Defining one named pathIsContainerData was wrong:
generate_function_manifest.sh indexes top-level definitions, and the
resulting autoload stub would have shadowed the real multi-root
implementation with the primary-only fallback — silently classifying
every file on a second disk as manager-owned, which is exactly the bug
this sweep exists to prevent. Renamed to _runCfgIsContainerPath, which
delegates when the real one is loaded.

setup_lock.sh built its path in a top-level assignment, so it was
evaluated at source time and needed the file flagged eager. Made it a
function instead: the path resolves on call, and the file drops off
LP_EAGER_FILES entirely.

bd10a9ab55 feat(update): detect a stale root footprint on git and local installs
footprint_update_needed only ever came from comparing the installed marker
against a channel manifest, so it could not fire on a git or local install —
they have no channel to ask. Those are exactly the installs whose code tree is
synced by hand, i.e. the ones most able to drift, and the drift was silent: the
helpers in /usr/local/lib/libreportal could sit behind the code that calls them
with nothing reporting it. That is how this box ended up running a crowdsec
helper with no bouncer-traefik-rotate action while the tool that needs it
shipped.

init.sh is what bakes the marker, so the install tree's own init.sh is
authoritative for every mode. lpInstallTreeFootprintVersion reads it and
lpFootprintStale compares. Wired into both non-release branches of the WebUI
status generator, and into the local branch of the interactive update check,
which is where a local operator actually looks.

Fails safe: a tree older than the marker, or a missing init.sh, reports current
rather than warning — verified alongside the real stale case.

Also gives webuiSystemUpdateCheck the self-reload guard webuiGenerateAppsToolsConfig
already documents. The WebUI task service sources these once at startup, so
without it an edited generator keeps writing the old JSON from memory.

"Control plane" is jargon. Rename the self-heal task and de-jargon all the
user-facing copy: task titles ("LibrePortal - Fix System Issues" / "System
Health Check"), the action label, the badge/banner/panel text and "Fix now"
button, the status summaries, and the heal task-log messages. Behaviour
unchanged; code comments keep the technical term where accurate.

24fbc36518 fix(health): robust crash-loop detection (RestartCount delta) + task display
Crash-loop detection keyed on `docker ps --filter status=restarting`, but a
backed-off loop sits "exited" between restarts once docker's backoff grows to
tens of seconds — so a slowed loop is missed. Detect via RestartCount CLIMBING
between scans (what a crash loop actually is), unioned with the instantaneous
restarting signal for fast loops. Baseline counts persist in
.health_restart_counts, written only by the throttled check so the heal's
re-scans don't disturb the delta.

Also give the system_health_heal / system_network_heal tasks proper display
(they fell through to the raw command + generic ⚙️): friendly titles in
formatCommandForUser, type icons (🩺 / 🌐) in getTaskTypeIcon, and action
labels in formatActionTitle — so they read as "LibrePortal - Repair Control
Plane" etc. with an icon, like install tasks.

2d1e4aa98f feat(health): self-healing control-plane watchdog + crash-loop failure cap
An offline trivy install crash-looped (server FATALs when it can't fetch the
vuln DB), and on rootless docker the restart storm churned the shared network's
port-forwarder until the WebUI's own published host port was torn down — the
WebUI stayed healthy INSIDE its container but was unreachable from the host, with
nothing detecting or healing it.

Three fixes, in the house self-healing style (mirrors the network-drift trio):

1. Control-plane health checker wired into the existing task-processor idle poll
   (maybeRegenPoll), no new daemon. dockerHealthScan (read-only) detects daemon
   down, a WebUI running-but-host-port-unreachable (the port-forward corruption),
   and crash-looping containers. webuiSystemHealthCheck writes
   frontend/data/system/health_status.json + self-dispatches a heal — the user
   can't click a button on a dead WebUI, so the poll drives the fix. Frontend
   health-notifier surfaces a topbar badge + dashboard banner + details panel.

2. Failure cap, enforced centrally by dockerHealthHeal (task-gated): stops
   crash-loopers (removing the churn), restarts the WebUI to re-publish a lost
   port forward, and — only if that fails — recycles the rootless daemon and
   restarts the core container. Caps every app immediately, no template churn.

3. Trivy no longer crash-loops offline: the server runs in a shell retry-loop so
   the container stays Up and quietly retries on a backoff instead of exiting
   FATAL. Verified: container stays Up across repeated DB-download failures.
   Core WebUI compose gains restart: unless-stopped so it self-recovers after a
   reboot / daemon recycle instead of staying down.

20f8ca2eb5 feat(network): detect + heal apps stranded off the docker subnet
Closes the gap behind the vpn-recreate bug: when the shared network is
recreated with a different /24, every app's stored static IP is left
outside it and adoptDockerSubnet only realigns CFG, not the apps.

- networkScanConflicts (network_conflicts.sh): read-only scan diffing each
  active network_resources IP against docker's real subnet (via ipInSubnet).
  Per-service routing-aware — skips gateway-routed services whose ipv4 is
  commented out in the deployed compose, so gluetun apps don't false-positive.
  Distinguishes 'daemon down' (benign) from 'network missing' (real).

- webuiSystemNetworkCheck (webui_system_network.sh): self-throttled generator
  that writes frontend/data/system/network_status.json (modelled on
  verify_status.json). Wired into webuiSystemUpdate AND run unconditionally
  every ~60s from the task-processor poll (regen webui is mtime-gated and
  would never fire on drift, which touches no source file).

- networkHealConflicts (network_heal.sh) + 'libreportal system network
  check|heal [app]': the heal adopts docker's subnet in-process, then re-IPs
  stranded apps with reset_network=ip (ports preserved), gluetun first.
  Mutating path runs only through the task system (dual-mode, like update
  apply); read-only check runs inline.

f49455e38e fix(de-sudo): route all confirmed container-tree writes through the privileged path
Exhaustive audit (workflow: 19 finders + adversarial per-file verify; 85 raw ->
66 unique -> 39 confirmed) found 36 direct writes into the container-owned tree
that bypass runFileOp/runFileWrite/runCfgOp (manager => EACCES in rootless) plus
3 $?-masking sites. Fixes by area:

- apps: grafana + prometheus install hooks (sudo chmod -> runFileOp chmod);
  gluetun provider etag (tee -> runFileWrite).
- webui generators: task-create (10 sites: mkdir/chown/tee/jq|tee/sed|tee ->
  runFileOp/runFileWrite); app-icons (mkdir/cp/mv); config icon cp; system
  metrics + update throttle stamps (runAsManager touch -> runFileOp touch);
  setup-lock rm; updater history seed + cp.
- task health checker: 4 log writes (tee -a -> runFileWrite -a) + 3 find -delete
  (-> runFileOp find).
- config reconcile: backup cp -> runCfgOp; live cp -> runFileWrite < tmp for
  container-owned configs (the container user can't read a manager 0600 tmp).
- peer pull: tar extract into the container tree -> runFileOp tar.
- masking: ip_find_available + folder_group(x2) — split 'local VAR=$(cmd)' so $?
  reaches the following [[ $? ]] check.

15 files, all pass bash -n; fixed idioms confirmed gone.

7a0477ff8b feat(system): per-folder breakdown under each app on the Storage page
Extend the app-storage generator to record every bind mount's size and
in-container path, grouped into a per-app folder list. The "Storage by
app" rows are now expandable: click an app to see where its space goes
(e.g. /var/lib/mysql vs /data), with external-drive folders flagged.

4b39cf770b feat(system): per-app on-disk storage on the Storage page
Docker only tracks where an app's data lives (its bind mounts), not how
big a bind-mounted host dir is — so named-volume accounting reads ~0 for
LibrePortal, whose app data lives in bind mounts. Add a generator that
reads each app's mount map from `docker inspect` and `du`s the directories
(via runFileOp, so it runs as the data-owning user and isn't blocked by
rootless UID mapping). `du -x` keeps each measurement on its own
filesystem, so data on a separate disk is reported as a distinct
"external" total. The generator self-throttles to ~10 min since du is
heavier than the per-minute metrics. Surfaced as a "Storage by app"
section on the Storage page.

b28268a61f feat(system): "Verified" integrity check against the signed release manifest
Adds per-file integrity attestation on top of the existing signed-tarball
release flow. make_release now generates a SHA256SUMS manifest over the shipped
tree and (when a key is configured) signs it, riding both inside the release
tarball so they land in the install tree with no extra download.

lpVerifyInstall (scripts/source/verify.sh) re-hashes the install tree against
that manifest and verifies the manifest's minisign signature against the
root-owned footprint pubkey, yielding states: verified / modified / tampered /
unsigned / unverifiable / development. webuiSystemVerify writes verify_status.json
(throttled daily, force on demand, also after each update apply), surfaced as an
Integrity line + "Verify now" button on the Admin → Overview Updates card and a
row in the update details panel. `libreportal verify` exposes the same check on
the CLI.

Honest framing: this is a self-check (run by the software it verifies), so red
fires only for genuine modified/tampered states; the badge tooltip points to
out-of-band `minisign -Vm` for an independent guarantee.

3014965b66 feat(update): FOOTPRINT_VERSION drift detection — flag when a root re-install is needed
A manager-run 'update apply' refreshes code/apps/WebUI but CANNOT rewrite the
root-owned footprint (helpers/wrapper/uninstall/unit/sudoers) — that immutability
is the de-sudo boundary. Previously a release that changed those would silently
leave them stale. Make it explicit:

- init.sh: footprint_version=1 constant, baked at install into
  /usr/local/lib/libreportal/.footprint_version (root:root 0644) by initRootHelpers.
  Bump it whenever a root component changes.
- make_release.sh: publishes footprint_version in latest.json.
- fetch.sh: lpInstalledFootprintVersion (marker) + lpReleaseLatestFootprint (manifest).
- check_update.sh: 'update apply' REFUSES when the release's footprint_version
  exceeds the installed one, directing to a root re-install (which fetches +
  re-bakes everything atomically). No half-applied updates.
- webui_system_update.sh: badge sets footprint_update_needed + clears can_update so
  the WebUI won't offer a one-click apply for a footprint-bumping release.
- docs/DEVELOPMENT.md: the bump rule + the footprint exception explained.

Verified: manifest carries footprint_version; drift decision correct both ways
(no marker/older -> needs re-install; equal -> no drift).

Make the WebUI updater work off release versions, not git commits, in release mode
(git/local paths untouched):

- webui_system_update.sh: a release branch resolves latest_version from the channel
  manifest (lpReleaseLatestVersion), computes update_available via lpVersionGt vs
  the local VERSION, reuses the same throttle + the same update_status.json schema
  (source="release"); reuses last-known latest when throttled so the badge
  doesn't flicker.
- check_update.sh webuiRunUpdate: a release branch version-compares and, if newer,
  lpFetchRelease (download + checksum-verify) the new tarball + dockerInstallApp
  redeploy + regen. No config-backup dance — lpFetchRelease replaces only the
  install tree; configs/logs are in the separate system tree.

Verified against a local server: latest-version read + the no-update / update-
available decision (0.2.0==0.2.0 no; 0.3.0>0.2.0 yes). Remaining: route the
reset/reinstall recovery paths through the release fetch.

6bb04533fa fix(desudo): manager->self sudo drops -> runAsManager (scoped-sudoers safe)
The scoped sudoers grants the manager (root) and (dockerinstall) but NOT
(itself), so the many 'sudo -u $sudo_user_name <cmd>' calls (crontab,
git/update, reinstall, swapfile, …) failed with 'a password is required'
once per CLI command. runAsManager runs the command plainly when already
the manager (the runtime case) and only sudo -u's when root (install
time), so it's correct in both contexts and needs no sudoers self-grant.

d17e8814d0 feat(desudo): root-owned DNS + host-SSH-access helpers
Two more runtime root file-primitive subsystems moved behind self-
validating root-owned helpers so the scoped sudoers needn't grant blanket
sudo sed/tee/cp on /etc (which is root-equivalent — sudo arg wildcards
match across '/', so even path-scoped entries are bypassable):

- scripts/system/libreportal-dns: {clear|add <ip>} — edits /etc/resolv.conf
  only, validates the IP argument
- scripts/system/libreportal-ssh-access: authorized_keys + sshd
  PasswordAuthentication management, with the lockout guards moved INTO the
  helper (the trust boundary) so a compromised manager can't bypass them
- run_privileged: _runRootHelper dispatcher + runResolv / runSshAccess
  (runOwnership now uses it too)
- init.sh: initRootHelpers installs all three helpers root:root 0755 with
  the manager name baked in
- setup_dns -> runResolv (+ ping de-sudo'd, works unprivileged); host_access
  + webui_ssh_access -> runSshAccess

78e7651ea0 feat(desudo): run start.sh AS the manager (Model A flip) + fix exposed writes
The CLI wrapper already runs as the manager (libreportal) but then did
'sudo ./start.sh', so the whole runtime executed as root — the reason
NOPASSWD:ALL was load-bearing. Drop that sudo so start.sh runs as the
manager; also drop the now-redundant sudo from the wrapper's own
manager-owned ops (config sed, /docker/configs + /docker/install
mkdir/cp/chown/rm, 'sudo -u libreportal' git clone, chmod). Only the
'cp -f init.sh /root/' copies stay root.

Running as the manager surfaced data-plane writes that only worked under
root; fixed to be owner-correct:
- webui_system_metrics: .metrics_{cpu,net}_prev state via runFileWrite
- atomicWriteWebUI: path-aware temp+chmod+mv (atomic same-dir rename as
  the path owner) instead of bare >/mv
- webui_app_config last_update trigger via runFileWrite

8b14f26125 refactor(desudo): route scattered runtime sudo through privilege helpers
Convert the remaining ad-hoc 'sudo' calls across the data plane to the
run_privileged helpers so every file op lands as the correct owner with
no blanket root:

- DB/configs (manager-owned): db_list_all_apps, delete_db_file,
  install_sqlite, cli_webui_commands -> runInstallOp
- containers (dockerinstall-owned): scan_container_socket, delete_data,
  webui_task_files, webui_app_log, webui_config_patch,
  application_missing_variables, uninstall_app -> runFileOp/runFileWrite
- genuine root: passwd, tailscale, ufw-docker, sysctl grep, systemd
  unit read, authorized_keys read, nobody chown -> runSystem
- interactive editors and 'id -u': drop sudo entirely (run as caller)
- owncloud/adguard container-UID config edits -> runSystem (funnel;
  docker-exec rework deferred)

bade6eaacb feat(webui): collect host + per-app metrics with history ring buffer
Add webui_system_metrics.sh, run each minute from webuiSystemUpdate:
- whole-server snapshot (metrics.json): CPU% + load, memory + swap,
  per-mount disk + inodes, network rx/tx rate, docker summary
- capped ring buffer (metrics_history.json, 24h default) for trend charts
- per-app docker stats grouped by compose project (metrics_apps.json)
  plus a short per-app history (metrics_apps_history.json) for sparklines

CPU% and network rate use stateful deltas stashed beside the JSON; all
host metrics read from /proc and docker via runFileOp, so it works rootless.

ed9697cdc0 fix(rootless): apps/categories/config/system generators write as container owner
The remaining WebUI generators built JSON into a temp file inside the
output dir then placed it with mv/sudo mv + a createTouch that can't re-own,
so in rootless they produced root/libreportal-owned data and 'touch:
Permission denied' spam. Two problems: the temp lived in the (now
dockerinstall-owned) output dir, which the cron updater — running as
libreportal — can't write; and the final file landed wrong-owned.

Move each temp to mktemp (/tmp, writable by whoever runs the updater) and
place the result via runFileWrite (writes as the container owner:
dockerinstall in rootless, manager in rooted), dropping the redundant
createTouch; convert the dir mkdirs to runFileOp. Covers apps
(services/config/tools/app_status/gluetun/config_patch), categories
(app/config-categories/field-mappings), config (configs.json) and system
(info/memory/disk/update). The logs file is handled by the now mode-aware
createFolders + createTouch.

75dfb3849b fix(rootless): backup/ssh WebUI generators write as the container owner
The backup + ssh generators created their frontend/data dirs via plain/sudo
mkdir and wrote files via sudo tee/mv (root-owned), then called createTouch
(dockerinstall) which can't re-own a root file — so every write hit
'touch: Permission denied' in rootless and left root-owned data the
dockerinstall container/generators can't rewrite. Convert dir creation to
runFileOp mkdir and file writes to runFileWrite (both run as the container
owner: dockerinstall in rootless, manager in rooted), dropping the
temp/mv/createTouch dance. Also make the createFolders chokepoint mode-aware
(containers/ paths created via runFileOp) so it mirrors createTouch.

ecd3db5632 fix(rootless): route requirement/disk docker checks through runFileOp
Three docker calls ran the binary directly (two plain, one sudo), so in
rootless they hit /var/run/docker.sock (the rooted socket, absent) and
printed 'Cannot connect to the Docker daemon' — the WebUI-image requirement
check, the system-disk WebUI generator (docker system df), and the
app-install fallback (docker ps). Route all three through runFileOp, which in
rootless runs as the docker install user with DOCKER_HOST set and is
argv-safe for --format, and in rooted runs as the manager via the docker
group.

3a679d7343 feat(ssh): admin host SSH-access engine (backend + CLI + snapshot)
Fresh, on-demand inbound SSH-access management for the host (replaces the old
maze). scripts/ssh/host_access.sh manages the install user's authorized_keys —
add a pasted public key (validated), list, remove — and toggles sshd password
login behind a lockout guard (won't disable passwords with no key; won't drop
the last key while passwords are off; sshd -t before reload, with backup).

New 'ssh' CLI category (status/key-add/key-remove/password-auth/generate) and
a webuiGenerateSshAccess snapshot (data/ssh/access.json: user, password_auth,
authorized keys as type+fingerprint+comment — public only) wired into the
regen chain. Nothing runs automatically; only explicit admin actions change
anything. WebUI page next.

315c528306 refactor(webui): silence per-file touch/chown noise in data generators
The WebUI data snapshots (locations.json, dashboard.json, snapshots_*.json,
etc.) are regenerated on every wizard/config change. Each file emitted two
extra success lines via createTouch — "Touching <file>" and "Updating
<file> with <user> ownership" — which spammed the output around the genuinely
useful "... JSON regenerated" line.

Add an optional "silent" flag to createTouch (third arg; default keeps the
existing loud behaviour for interactive install flows) and pass it from every
WebUI data generator/task. Touch + chown still run; only the logging is
suppressed for these background regenerations.

d5fe1bc56b feat(webui): out-of-date detection + one-click update
Surface when LibrePortal is behind upstream and let users update from the
WebUI, reusing the proven git-update path instead of reinventing it.

Detection (host): webuiSystemUpdateCheck writes
frontend/data/system/update_status.json from a throttled git fetch +
behind-count + VERSION compare, off the existing per-minute
`webui generate system` cron. A new /VERSION file is the canonical version.

Display (frontend): update-notifier.js/.css render a global topbar badge
(every page) and a dashboard banner (prominent when behind, subtle "up to
date" with a manual check otherwise), plus a details panel.

Actions go through the task pipeline:
- `libreportal update apply` -> webuiRunUpdate (non-interactive: guards,
  forced check, gitPerformUpdate, then dockerInstallApp libreportal)
- `libreportal update check` -> forced recheck

gitFolderResetAndBackup's body is extracted into gitPerformUpdate (no exit)
so the WebUI path can reuse it; the interactive CLI flow is unchanged.

Detection JSON verified against the repo (up-to-date and behind cases).
webuiRunUpdate's re-clone + redeploy still needs validation on a live host.

The latest-version source is git for now and is the single swap point for
get.libreportal.org later — the JSON contract and frontend stay unchanged.
