Adds the wizard step for importing existing apps, so the common case is
answerable in the WebUI rather than only from a terminal.
Path-based, not upload, and that is the design rather than a shortcut. A
.lpapp is a plain tarball and the file is already on the server, so
nothing secret crosses into the browser — which is exactly why this can
live in the WebUI when the encrypted-repository restore cannot (§4.1).
Accepts a single file or a folder of them.
Check first, then accept: the step enqueues `app import-check --publish`,
polls the document it writes, and renders one row per file with its
verdict — ready, a warning (its old storage location is gone, so it will
land on the default), or a refusal (already installed, no longer shipped,
will not fit). Refused rows are shown greyed with the reason rather than
hidden, and cannot be selected.
setupApplyConfig re-runs appImport's own checks rather than trusting the
payload: the machine can change between the check and the apply, and the
list arrives from a browser.
The backend route shell-quotes the path — it reaches a command line and
is user input.
Verified: the step renders as "Step 6 of 7", and the underlying check was
proven against real .lpapp files (correct app name from the tar, size
from the manifest, warning for a missing storage location, refusals for
an already-installed app and a non-export).

`libreportal app export <app>` writes one app to a single file;
`libreportal app import <file>` installs it here. This is the thing the
original request described as "upload or navigate to the backup file" — a
restic repository is not a file, but the want behind the phrasing is real.
The format is deliberately boring: gzipped tar of the app directory with
its .libreportal-manifest.json at the root. That manifest already records
size, images, volumes, databases and storage location, so import reuses
the phase-3 checks for free — refusing an app this version no longer
ships, or one that will not fit, before unpacking anything.
Export stops the app first. A tar of a running Postgres is a corrupt
Postgres, and a file that looks fine until you restore it is worse than a
refusal. tar runs as the owning user with --numeric-owner so container
sub-UIDs survive the round trip instead of being remapped through this
machine's /etc/passwd.
Import re-runs the normal install pipeline after unpacking, because the
compose still carries the SOURCE machine's ports, IPs and domains — that
pipeline is what re-allocates them here, and migrateUrlRewrite fixes the
host-bound CFG_* fields.
Documented throughout as a courier format, not a backup: no history, no
retention, no encryption. Importing under a different name is refused
outright rather than half-working — the CFG_<APP>_* namespace and compose
identities would all need rewriting, and `instance create` already
answers "a second copy".
Fixes a bug this surfaced: _appDirIntended did an indirect expansion on
CFG_<SLUG>_STORAGE without checking <SLUG> can be a variable name, so a
hyphenated or mistyped app name emitted "invalid variable name" and then
reported the misleading "storage location is not mounted" for an app that
simply did not exist.

Nothing prompted anyone to configure backups, so the people most likely
to need a restore were the least likely to have one. The wizard now asks,
once, with the drives it already scanned as the options.
Three messages, because the honest answer differs by choice:
declined nothing is protected until you set it up
same drive still covers deletion, a bad update and ransomware — not
this disk failing, since the data and its only copy go
together
another drive the repository is encrypted; write the password down
somewhere other than this machine
That last one matters more than it reads. An encrypted repository cannot
be opened with anything stored inside itself, and the location password
lives in the system config, which is inside the backup. On a rebuilt
machine the user must supply it by hand — so the wizard says so up front
rather than letting them discover it during a restore.
The password is deliberately NOT echoed by setupApplyConfig: task output
is logged, and a secret in a log is a secret you have to treat as leaked.
It is shown on the Backup page, which is what the wizard tells the user.
locationAdd creates a location disabled, so the applier enables it and
runs engineInitLocation — an un-initialised destination silently backs up
nothing, which is the worst possible way to have "configured backups".

Reworks the Storage step: two labelled choices with tooltips at the top —
LibrePortal and New apps — and the drive list underneath as reference.
The drive cards lose their checkboxes. Choosing a drive in a dropdown IS
the request to register it, so a separate tick was a second way to say the
same thing, and the way you end up with a drive ticked that nobody
selected. Cards are now informational plus Details.
Both dropdowns only render when there is a second drive; with one disk
both answers are forced and a pair of selects showing one option each is
furniture.
Moving LibrePortal's own tree cannot be a WebUI action. It re-bakes the
six root-owned helpers, the systemd unit and the WebUI's own bind-mounts
— real root, not the scoped sudo the manager holds. A helper that re-baked
the other helpers from a manager-supplied path would hand the manager
exactly the trust boundary those helpers exist to defend. So picking a
different disk for LibrePortal surfaces the root command to run rather
than pretending the wizard can do it; the payload carries the choice so
the finish screen can repeat it. libreportal-relocate follows.
Also drops "itself" from the installer's wording.

Two fixes.
The wizard's "new apps store their data on" dropdown was a bare native
<select>. The OS draws that popup and ignores our CSS, which is why it
came out as stock white chrome — the WebUI already solves this with
custom-select.js, which enhances any select.form-control into a themed
button and list. It just needed the class.
And the installer now asks for the two roots independently rather than
only app data. I had argued one question was simpler, and for a desktop
it is — the control plane is ~20 MB and moving it gains nothing. But on a
small board with an 8 GB eMMC and a USB SSD you want both moved, and
there was no way to say so without knowing the flags exist. Still one
disk list and two short questions; each is skipped if its flag was
already passed.
Fixed a bug the test caught immediately: _initAskDisk returns the chosen
path on stdout, and it was printing the prompt there too, so the question
text became part of the answer — the system root ended up named after its
own prompt. Prompts go to stderr now, stdout is the return channel.
Verified every combination under a pty: both default, apps only, both
moved, system only, and invalid-then-valid.

Per-app placement worked but had no default: a box with a big second disk
meant setting CFG_<APP>_STORAGE on every app individually. CFG_STORAGE_DEFAULT
fixes that, and the wizard asks for it in one line.
CFG_<APP>_STORAGE now has three states rather than two, and the third is
the point:
<name> this app goes there, whatever the default says
primary this app goes on the install-time root, explicitly
default no opinion — follow CFG_STORAGE_DEFAULT
Templates ship "default", so the setting reaches every app without
touching 37 configs, while an app that was deliberately placed keeps its
placement. "primary" is new, and needed: without it there was no way to
say "keep this one on the system disk" once the global default moved.
A default naming a location that has since been removed falls back to the
primary root rather than refusing — a disk that got unregistered must not
make apps un-installable.
The wizard asks only once a second drive is ticked; with nothing ticked
there is one possible answer and a control would be furniture. It sets a
default, not a placement, and the value stored is the location NAME, so it
survives the disk being remounted elsewhere.
scripts/dev/lp-storage-default-test covers all three states plus the
removed-location fallback.

The system disk rendered as a checked-and-disabled checkbox, which reads
as "a choice that is locked". It isn't a choice at all — apps fall back
to it whatever happens — so it now carries no control, and is a <div>
rather than a <label> since there is nothing to label. A spacer keeps its
text aligned with the real checkboxes below.
An "Additional drives" divider separates the two kinds of row: above it
is where apps go regardless, below it is what you can opt into. It only
renders when there is something to divide, so the single-disk case is
still one card and a line of text.
Verified both states.

I had the bar filling with FREE space. It was internally consistent with
the text next to it and completely wrong in practice: every file manager
fills a capacity bar with USED space, so a nearly-empty disk rendered as
a nearly-full bar and read as "this drive is full".
Windows Explorer is the reference for exactly this pairing — a used-fill
bar beside "808 GB free of 912 GB" — so the card now matches it. Amber
above 75% used, red above 90%.
The cosmetic problem that led me to invert it (a low-usage bar looking
like a broken widget rather than an almost-empty one) was the track's
contrast, not the direction. Fixed where it belonged, in CSS.
Also drops the "Drives that can't hold app data are greyed out" line: the
cards and their badges already carry that, so it was a standing sentence
explaining something visible.

The card said "911.9G · 808.4G free · ext4". The filesystem type is a
Details row, not something you choose a drive on, so it goes.
On percentage vs size: which one matters depends on the question. This
step asks "will my data fit?", and absolute free space is what decides
that — a 4 GB disk that is 89% free is still useless for a media library.
Percentage answers "is this filling up?", a health signal rather than a
placement one. So the text carries the magnitude ("808.4G free of 911.9G")
and a thin bar carries the proportion, which is what the eye reads
fastest, with no second number competing with the first.
The bar fills with FREE space, not used. Filling by usage made a healthy
7%-full disk render as an almost-empty track that read as a broken widget
— and it pointed the opposite way to the text beside it. Filled = room to
spare, draining = filling up, matching the words. It turns amber below
25% free and red below 10%.

The step opened with a two-line paragraph explaining what storage
locations are. Every other field in the wizard puts that kind of
background behind a "?" — same markup, same component — so this now does
too, and the step is a title, two one-line drive cards, and the buttons.
The footer line was repeating the first half of that paragraph. It now
carries only what is actionable while choosing: that a greyed drive has
its reason in Details, or that no other drives were found.
Verified the bubble renders with the full text.

Three changes to the Storage step.
The system disk is now a first-class entry — pinned first, ticked, and
locked, since apps fall back to it and it therefore cannot be deselected.
Its Details work like any other drive's, which is the whole point on a
single-disk box: the step now answers "where does my data actually go?"
instead of being skipped and answering nothing. The step is consequently
unconditional; the note changes to explain that no other drives were
found rather than the step vanishing.
The system entry is excluded from the submitted payload — it is already
the primary root, and asking the helper to register it would (correctly)
be refused for nesting.
Cards are one line again. Listing every warning under each drive pushed
them to three lines and made the step tall for no gain: the badge already
carries severity and Details carries the explanation. The note now says
to open Details for the reason rather than claiming it is on the card.
Badge colours were dark-on-light, which against the wizard's mid-blue
glass read as muddy grey — the "needs care" pill in particular. Switched
to light-on-dark, legible without shouting over the drive name.
Verified with lp-shot in both states: system disk alone, and system disk
plus a second drive.

The details popup was a hand-rolled overlay instead of openEoModal, which
every other modal in the WebUI uses. Two things were wrong with that.
It was appended to the wizard container rather than document.body. The
wizard has a backdrop-filter, which makes it a containing block, so the
modal's position:fixed resolved against the wizard instead of the
viewport — the backdrop covered part of the screen and the panel sat
off-centre.
And once switched to eo-modal it still didn't appear at all: .eo-modal is
z-index 1100 while the wizard overlay is 9999, so it rendered behind the
wizard and the Details button looked inert. Raised only under
body.setup-wizard-open, so no other overlay's stacking is touched — the
wizard is the exceptional full-screen surface, so it is the wizard's
stylesheet that declares modals must sit above it.
The bespoke modal chrome is gone from setup-wizard.css; what remains is
the storage-specific content (spec table, checks list, fstab box) that
renders inside .eo-modal-body. Header, sections, backdrop, Escape,
click-outside and the footer action now all come from the shared helper.

The Storage step was a technical dump: every check's full sentence
concatenated onto the card, so the fstab line the user is meant to act on
was buried in prose nobody reads.
The card now shows plain facts and at most two short flags — "Low on
space · Won't be mounted after a reboot" — with everything else behind a
Details button. The modal carries the technical spec (device, UUID, mount
options, removable), every check with its full explanation, and the
fstab offer.
That needed the shell to stop joining checks into one string: the
generator emits a record per check, plus the fstab line as its own field,
so neither the card nor the modal has to parse anything back out of the
other.
The screenshot caught a bug this restructure introduced: summaries keyed
on check id alone, so a PASSING check printed the failure wording next to
a green tick — "This drive's format can't store file ownership" above
"Filesystem: ext4". Now severity-aware.
On writing /etc/fstab — §1 ruled it out and §6.3 now records why that
reverses. The warning is useless to the audience this is for: "add this
line to fstab" assumes SSH, root, an editor, and knowing what fstab is,
and the likely outcome is a reboot where nothing starts. What makes it
defensible is nofail + x-systemd.device-timeout, which mean a missing
device can never block boot — without that pair it would stay a non-goal,
because the failure being risked (an unbootable machine) is worse than
the one being fixed.
Enforced in the root helper: UUID never /dev/sdX, append inside a marked
block, refuse a target or UUID already described, refuse the root
filesystem, require a live mount, timestamped backup, and
`findmnt --verify` before the file is installed — a file that doesn't
parse never reaches /etc. Opt-in only.
Verified against a real filesystem: entry added and verifies, the
persistence warning then disappears on the next scan, and duplicate /
root-fs / non-mountpoint / relative are each refused with the reason.

webuiGenerateStorageCandidates now runs as part of webuiSystemUpdate, so
frontend/data/storage.json exists without anyone remembering to generate
it — the wizard reads it to decide whether its Storage step appears, and
the Disks view reads the same file, so the two can never disagree.
Warnings arrive from the shell joined with "; ". Rendering that verbatim
produced one run-on paragraph that buried the fstab line the user is
supposed to copy, so the card splits them back onto separate lines.
Verified on the live install with lp-shot: with one filesystem the wizard
shows "Step 1 of 4" and the Storage step is correctly absent; with a
second filesystem attached it becomes "Step 4 of 5" with the drive
carrying a "needs care" badge and both warnings legible. That also
exercises the visible-step mapping in both directions.

Phase 3 of docs/roadmap/storage-locations.md.
The step appears only when the candidate scan finds a filesystem
LibrePortal isn't already using, so the single-disk case — which is most
boxes — is completely unchanged. It sits before Recommended because a
location has to exist before an app can be placed on it.
Supporting two conditional steps meant the wizard could no longer treat
'position in the DOM' and 'step index' as the same number: Metrics was
advanced-only and got away with 'length minus one', but a step hidden in
the MIDDLE leaves a gap. Navigation, progress, validation and submit now
all run off _visibleSteps(), and section matching is by data-step rather
than DOM position.
Unusable candidates render greyed WITH the reason rather than being
filtered out — 'why isn't my drive listed?' is a support burden, and
'exFAT can't store file ownership' is actionable. The step is skipped
only when nothing usable was found at all.
What the wizard sends is a request, not an instruction: setupApplyConfig
feeds each path through storageAdd, so the fitness checks and the root
helper's admission rules both re-run regardless of what arrived in the
payload.

Phase 2 and 4 of docs/roadmap/storage-locations.md. Apps can now be
placed on a location and moved between them.
CFG_<APP>_STORAGE lands in all 37 app templates, holding a location NAME
rather than a path: names survive a migrate to a host with different
disks, paths do not. The 11 infrastructure apps that other apps reach by
literal path (traefik, prometheus, grafana, adguard, gluetun, crowdsec,
headscale, dashy, pihole, unbound, wireguard) are pinned. libreportal
itself never gets the key — it is pinned structurally by webuiDir.
Pinning needed no second config key. "Pinned" is not a fact about a value,
it is a statement about whether the field may be edited, so it goes in the
comment beside **ADVANCED** and **DEV** as **READONLY**, and the field
factory renders those disabled. That marker earns its keep beyond this
feature: derived fields already warned in prose that editing them does
nothing (crowdsec.config:72) next to a perfectly editable input.
storage_app_config.sh keeps the comment honest — it carries the resolved
path for hand-recovery and regenerates the dropdown from the registry, but
only writes when something actually changed, since the app .config is
user-editable and lives in the container-owned tree.
app move stops the app (a live copy of a running Postgres is a corrupt
copy), snapshots it, copies, verifies, and only then removes the source.
The copy runs in libreportal-ownership because it must: app data holds
rootless sub-UID files the manager can neither read nor recreate.
Verified against two real ext4 filesystems that a cross-device move
preserves uid 231141 and the payload, and that the source survives every
refusal path — unregistered destination, the WebUI app, a traversal in the
app name, and an occupied destination.
Task titles registered in both tables, with a specific rule so a move
renders as "Nextcloud - Move to bigdisk" rather than the generic fallback
dropping the destination. lp-task-names could not be run to confirm — it
borrows the WebUI container's node and no containers are running.

The /tasks page's right-side tick + dynamic Select all / Clear All ⇄
Delete Selected layout now covers the other three management surfaces:
- App detail → Tasks tab: filter bar gains the Clear All button and
master tick; Clear All there scopes to that app's tasks only. The
selection set is resolved through window.tasksManager everywhere —
TasksManager is constructed in several places, and ticks previously
landed on one instance while Delete Selected read another's empty set.
- Apps overview → Updates: the header's Update all button now morphs to
Update Selected (N) + Clear in place as rows are ticked, replacing the
separate selection bar between toolbar and list.
- App detail → Backups: each snapshot row gains Delete + a right-side
tick; a toolbar atop the list morphs Delete All ⇄ Delete Selected (N).
The whole selection rides in ONE task (delete <app> 1:a,2:b,…) since
the backup surfaces hold one task per subject at a time.
- CLI: backup app delete accepts comma-separated <idx>:<snap> pairs, and
both delete and delete_all now regenerate the WebUI backup JSON so
deleted snapshots leave the screen instead of lingering until the next
backup.

Two recurring console errors, each masking real ones.
"Identifier 'BackupAppCard' has already been declared": the app has two
script loaders that could not see each other's work. The boot-time
system loader injects tags with NO id and dedupes by script[src]; the
SPA's loadScript injects with an id and deduped ONLY by that id. So a
file both of them load — backup-app-card.js is on the boot list AND in
the overview Backups tab's asset chain — loaded twice whenever the SPA
loaded second: its getElementById check cannot see an id-less tag. The
class redeclared with an uncaught SyntaxError. The blindness was
one-directional, which is why it looked sporadic. spaClean.loadScript
now also matches by src, closing the asymmetry for every shared file,
not just this one.
"ConfigSidebar: config-categories-list element not found", three to
four times per navigation: renderConfig populated the admin sidebar
unconditionally, but the backup center's Configuration tab EMBEDS that
renderer inside its own pane (renderConfig('backup', <target>)), where
the sidebar element legitimately does not exist — and the refresh
coordinator re-renders that tab on every task event. Populating is now
skipped when a target is passed: an embedded render does not own the
admin shell. The error stays for target-less renders, where a missing
sidebar genuinely is a broken shell.
Verified in a live session: repeated sweeps across /tasks, the overview
Backups tab (Configuration sub-tab included) and a per-app Backups page
produce zero new occurrences of either error — confirmed against a
live console buffer via a sentinel, since the buffer retains the
pre-fix history and re-reading it can look like recurrence.

Four rules rendered their bubble with `content: attr(title)` while leaving the
title attribute in place, so the browser drew its native tooltip over the styled
one — two bubbles, offset, one of them unthemed. That is the overlap.
setup-wizard.css already had it right with attr(data-tip). Everything else now
matches: the text moved to data-tip, which the browser does not render, and
aria-label carries it for assistive tech. 24 emitters migrated across 9 files,
including two that assign the text at runtime — those set both attributes so
neither goes stale.
The same sweep found the bubble was defined twice globally. core/forms/css had
the plain one; port-manager.css carried a nicer bordered, wrapping version
commented "Enhanced tooltips for main config help icons" — which never applied
to them, because forms.css loads afterwards at equal specificity and won. So
every help icon outside the port manager had been getting the plain bubble, with
`white-space: nowrap` and no max-width: a sentence-length tooltip rendered as one
unbroken line running past its own background. The wrapping version is now the
one in forms.css, the shadowed copy is gone, and the .port-manager-scoped rule
stays.
Verified on Bookstack's config page: 26 help icons, none carrying a title, all
carrying data-tip, and hovering one flips ::after content from `none` to the text
with a single themed bubble on screen.
No port-descriptor tooltip, deliberately. PORT_N fields are replaced at runtime
by the port manager, whose hidePortFieldLabels() sets the field's help icon to
display:none — anything put there is unreachable, confirmed in the DOM. The
format is already documented column by column by the port manager's own 13 help
icons, several in more detail than a single descriptor string could manage.
The button assigned window.location.href, which is a full page load: the
app re-boots, every panel re-fetches and open state is lost — for a
control whose whole job is "show me that task".
It fired more often than it looks. The two branches above it only handle
being ALREADY on an app page with an app name, or ALREADY on /tasks. A
system-wide task carries no app name, and its /tasks/<category>/<id>
target keeps the id in the path rather than a ?task= query, so from the
dashboard or the App Center every guard missed and the reload was the
outcome.
The router handles that URL fine — tasks-manager reads the category and
task id out of the path on mount, so /tasks/all/<id> arrives with the
task already highlighted. Both fallbacks now offer it to spaClean first
and keep location.href only for when the router genuinely is absent.
The URL is normalised to a same-origin path, since navigate() expects a
path and the incoming value may be absolute; anything off-origin is
refused rather than routed.

Four fixes to the Updates tab, all reported from the same screenshot.
Upgrade is green and just says "Upgrade". It was accent-styled and carried the
target version, which duplicated the confirmation it opens — the dialog already
names the version, so the button only had to name the action. Green also stops
it reading as the same control as the cyan Update beside it.
The picker moved from the head of the row to the tail, matching the Tasks list.
It used to lead with an `ov-pick-empty` spacer holding the column open, so with
nothing updatable every row carried a left gutter for a checkbox that was never
coming — the gap in the report. Unselectable rows now render no picker at all.
Select all joins the toolbar, right-aligned above that column, again mirroring
Tasks. It acts on the selectable rows in view, so a narrowing filter chip cannot
leave it quietly picking rows nobody can see.
The confirmation dialog takes an optional icon and the upgrade flow passes the
app's, so it leads with the same icon-in-holder the instance modals use. Styled
in base.css rather than borrowing .app-card-icon: this dialog is global and
appears on pages that never load the apps stylesheet. Its title now uses the
display name too — "Upgrade matrix to…" beside the Matrix logo read as a
different thing.
Verified against the live WebUI: green Upgrade with the gutter gone; Select all
and the trailing checkboxes with two apps temporarily flagged (data restored
byte-identical after); the master toggling 0 -> 2 -> 0; and the dialog showing
matrix.svg under the title "Upgrade Matrix to v1.159.0?".
Task titles come from one table whose final fallback returns the raw command
string, so a dispatched command with no matching row does not error — it just
renders as "libreportal instance remove bookstack_work" beside properly named
neighbours. That silence is why this kept being fixed and kept coming back.
The guard reads BOTH files as source — the command templates from
task-commands.js and the pattern table from tasks-format.js — so it fails on a
command added without a name rather than leaving it to be noticed in the UI.
Two checks, both from source rather than guessed from rendered text:
1. Nothing falls through: a title equal to its command, or still starting with
"libreportal ", means the raw fallback was reached.
2. Every `libreportal app <verb>` verb has an actionMap entry. Without one the
generic branch composes "<Verb> Application", which is how "Up Application"
and "Down Application" shipped.
The second check reads the actionMap keys instead of pattern-matching the title,
which a first attempt did and which was wrong: "Reload Application" is both a
correct hand-written label and what the generic branch emits, so the rendered
text cannot distinguish them and the heuristic failed a title that was fine.
Verified by breaking it deliberately in both directions — adding a command with
no pattern, and deleting an actionMap verb. Each is caught, named, and pointed at
the file to edit; both files were restored byte-identical afterwards.
Lives in scripts/dev, which .gitattributes marks export-ignore, so it never ships
in a release tarball. Needs a node and borrows the running container's when the
host has none, the same constraint lp-shot works around for chromium.

An instance's isolation never needed a domain — its own slug, dir, secrets,
IP and randomly-allocated host port already make two copies independent. But
the routing layer assumed one, so a LAN-only box got a broken instance rather
than a port-served one. Four fixes:
- instanceCreate now rewrites the parent-service column of the cloned config's
PORT_ rows to match the service names it stamps into the compose. That value
is stored as network_resources.parent_service and joined against the
compose-derived service names, so an instance left carrying the TYPE's
service name matched nothing: it rendered in the WebUI with no port, no URL
and no login row despite being up and reachable.
- `instance create --local` (plus a LAN-only toggle in the modal) forces every
port to access=private, traefik=false, for a second copy that should stay
off the domain even when one is configured.
- initializeAppVariables forces the traefik column false when no CFG_DOMAIN_n
is set. Previously a traefik=true port with an empty domain stamped
Host(`app.`) — a trailing-dot host matching nothing — and dragged APP_URL to
https://app. with it, breaking every app that builds its links from APP_URL.
host_setup is blanked for the same reason. The published host port is
untouched; access type, not the traefik flag, gates allocation.
- APP_URL's direct host-port branch now prefers a new $local_ip_v4 (the source
IP for the default route) over $public_ip_v4, which is the WAN address from
an external resolver. LibrePortal never forwards ports, so the WAN address
was unreachable for exactly the LAN/VPN clients that branch serves.

Running a tool from the Tools tab raised two full-size toasts around a few
seconds of work — "task started!" as the run began and "task completed!" as
it ended — and then opened the result modal that actually carried the answer.
The started one was stale by the time it was read and the finished one said
what the modal was already showing.
Tool tasks now go through LP_BACKGROUND_TASKS with a new `silent` flag (no
started toast, no finish line), and tools-manager raises a compact
"Running <tool>…" spinner toast for the duration instead, dismissed the
moment the result modal or the user list opens.
A failed list_users now falls through to the result modal too — it has no
account list to open, and the completion toast that used to report the
failure is gone.
Puts the stepped engine behind the "34 available" chip so it is not
CLI-only. Wired end to end: updater_upgrade task type -> task-router ->
updaterUpgrade action -> `libreportal updater upgrade <app> [version]`,
with a label and icon in the tasks list.
The button always confirms, and the dialog states the plan and the
guarantee rather than asking "are you sure?" — which app, from which
version to which, that every step snapshots first and waits for the app
to confirm it is serving with no migration outstanding, that a failure
stops the ladder on the last version that verified, and that it can take
a long time because each release runs its own migration.
Both delegated dispatchers (per-app Updates tab and the fleet Overview
rows) learn the action, so the button works wherever the chip appears.

Reported: dropdowns dead on the app config page only, in a private window
(so not cache), with the served frontend confirmed identical to source.
The enhancer ran in a bare forEach with no try/catch anywhere, and
build() inserts its wrapper via `select.parentNode.insertBefore(...)`.
A detached select makes that a null deref, and one throw abandoned the
rest of the pass — every select AFTER it silently stayed native. The
MutationObserver callback had the same exposure for the remaining
mutation records in a batch.
The app config page is the one that can produce a detached select: it
builds its category panels in an async loop, so the observer can see a
node a later render already replaced. That matches "only app config".
Worse than losing the theme: if the throw landed after build() added
.custom-select-native, the select was left opacity:0 / pointer-events:
none behind a button with no listeners — a dropdown that looks right and
does nothing.
Now: detached/unconnected selects are skipped (they get enhanced when
their subtree is attached and the observer fires again), every
enhancement is individually guarded, a failed one is rolled back so it
can never be left invisible, and failures console.warn with the field
name instead of vanishing.
Verified with jsdom against the real file: detached nodes skipped without
throwing, a failure mid-pass leaves later selects working, and the
survivors open and set their value.

Tags and Paths were stacked full-width blocks, so a single tag chip and a
single path each burned a whole row and left the panel mostly empty. Wrap
them in a .bsm-blocks auto-fit grid that seats them side by side and falls
back to stacking under ~460px. The wrapper now owns the divider, so it
renders once for the pair instead of once per block, and is omitted
entirely when neither block has content.
Applied to both renderers of this markup: the global Backups view and the
per-app backup card.

Trivy had no /core/icons/apps/trivy.svg (the canonical app-icon path used by
task rows, tiles, tools, services, routing), so it fell back to the default.
Add the official Trivy mark, white on its #1904DA brand tile so it stays legible
on the dark, near-transparent icon tiles across every theme.

The type glyph (🩺/🔄/✅…) sat bare next to the framed .task-app-icon tile. Give
it the same 32px rounded tile (border + surface-elevated bg) so the two read as
a matched pair; spacing now comes from .task-info's gap like the app icon.

Previously retry silently created a new task, left the failed one in place with
no link, and didn't take you to the retry. Now:
- The new task is linked to the failed one via `retryOf`; the server stamps the
original `retriedBy` and KEEPS it (its log is the failure record — never
deleted), so history survives and there's no confusing bare duplicate.
- The failed row shows a muted "↻ Retried" pill, hides its now-stale Retry
button, and offers "View retry" to jump to the new run. The new run shows a
"Retry of:" backlink to the original.
- After retrying, the UI selects the new task and opens its live log so you
follow the retry instead of hunting for it.
retryOf rides through the existing POST /api/tasks (no new endpoint); createTask
gained an optional extra-body arg.

"Control plane" is jargon. Rename the self-heal task and de-jargon all the
user-facing copy: task titles ("LibrePortal - Fix System Issues" / "System
Health Check"), the action label, the badge/banner/panel text and "Fix now"
button, the status summaries, and the heal task-log messages. Behaviour
unchanged; code comments keep the technical term where accurate.

An offline trivy install crash-looped (server FATALs when it can't fetch the
vuln DB), and on rootless docker the restart storm churned the shared network's
port-forwarder until the WebUI's own published host port was torn down — the
WebUI stayed healthy INSIDE its container but was unreachable from the host, with
nothing detecting or healing it.
Three fixes, in the house self-healing style (mirrors the network-drift trio):
1. Control-plane health checker wired into the existing task-processor idle poll
(maybeRegenPoll), no new daemon. dockerHealthScan (read-only) detects daemon
down, a WebUI running-but-host-port-unreachable (the port-forward corruption),
and crash-looping containers. webuiSystemHealthCheck writes
frontend/data/system/health_status.json + self-dispatches a heal — the user
can't click a button on a dead WebUI, so the poll drives the fix. Frontend
health-notifier surfaces a topbar badge + dashboard banner + details panel.
2. Failure cap, enforced centrally by dockerHealthHeal (task-gated): stops
crash-loopers (removing the churn), restarts the WebUI to re-publish a lost
port forward, and — only if that fails — recycles the rootless daemon and
restarts the core container. Caps every app immediately, no template churn.
3. Trivy no longer crash-loops offline: the server runs in a shell retry-loop so
the container stays Up and quietly retries on a backoff instead of exiting
FATAL. Verified: container stays Up across repeated DB-download failures.
Core WebUI compose gains restart: unless-stopped so it self-recovers after a
reboot / daemon recycle instead of staying down.

New containers/trivy app (aquasec/trivy in server mode, private API port,
docker socket + cache volume) in the security,recommended categories, plus
placement in the setup wizard recommended step, the server-side install
tier after crowdsec, and the CLI first-install prompt. The updater's CVE
scan (design doc P4) will gate on this app being installed; §5 of the
design doc updated to record the app-based decision.

A background task like the updater check surfaces its result in the page it was
launched from (the Updates/Overview tab repaints itself), yet it still fired the
full "View Task" pair — "Check task started!" then "Check task completed!" —
on top of the launcher's own small "Checking apps for updates…" line. Three
notifications for something you have no reason to open the Tasks page for.
Add a small, generic classifier (LP_BACKGROUND_TASKS) keyed by task action/type
(with a command regex that also catches the backend `updater check auto` run).
For a classified task:
- executeTask() skips the standard "task started!" toast and, when the run is
hand-launched, records its id as pending.
- the taskCompleted handler skips the standard "task completed!" toast; if the
id was pending (user launched it) it shows one small plain result line
("Apps checked for updates & vulnerabilities."), otherwise stays silent so
the periodic auto-scan makes no noise at all.
Non-background tasks are unaffected — the standard task-notification style still
applies. Extend byAction to quiet another self-surfacing action.

In the config grid (e.g. Backups > Configuration > Engine) toggle pills sat
~6px below and 2px taller than the text/select controls beside them, so they
read as misaligned. Two causes, both scoped to .config-fields:
- .field-group carried a vestigial margin-bottom:6px (the grid's own 16px gap
already spaces rows). It inflated the grid track, so the align-self:end
toggle landed 6px below the input controls. Zeroed inside the grid.
- The .checkbox-label pill's 24px switch + 10px vertical padding rendered 46px
vs the inputs' 44px. Trimmed to 9px padding so the pill is 44px.
Toggles now share the exact vertical band (top + height) as the inputs in
their row. Applies to every config-grid toggle, not just the backup engine.

On /admin/config/general the Basic section's fields sit in the darker inset
".config-fields" box, but the Mail Enabled toggle and Installation Mode select
did not — their control sits in its own .mail-master-toggle / .git-master-toggle
wrapper, a sibling of .config-fields, which the boxing rule never covered. So a
gated section's enable row read as loose, unboxed content above the (hidden)
options.
Extend the boxed-panel rule to the master-toggle wrappers (mail / install-mode /
generic / backup-remote). Element-qualified to the wrapper <div> because
renderToggleSection stamps the same class on the inner .checkbox-label pill too,
which must not get its own nested box.

When the official catalog is hidden, its "Re-enable" action rendered as a
flat, greyed-out ~27px pill pinned to the top-left of the row — shorter than
the 44px URL field and not obviously clickable (the generic .btn-secondary
loses its nebula-theme polish outside .config-actions, so it fell back to an
unstyled base button).
- The action column now align-self:stretch, so its control matches the URL
field's height and sits inline (also vertically centres the compact × in the
enabled state).
- The Re-enable button gets a dedicated .catalog-reenable-btn treatment: accent
fill + accent border + hover state + an eye icon, filling the row height so it
lines up with the input and clearly reads as a button.

Feedback: the removal warning was an overwhelming paragraph and made it look like
updates might break. Keep the official catalog removable, but present the effects
as a clear two-part list instead of prose:
✓ Still works: system updates & hotfixes, installed apps, re-enabling any time
✕ What changes: official apps hidden from the App Center "Available" list
Backed by a new optional messageHtml arg on the shared confirmation dialog (dev-
controlled HTML body) + styles for the effect groups. Required tickbox kept.

- Info banner: drop the borrowed traefik warning banner (icon sat above the
text, amber-warning styling) for a .catalog-note — icon inline with the text,
neutral boxed look matching the content sections.
- Official row (#1): render the release-host URL in a read-only input (same
element/height as the third-party rows) with the "✓ Official" badge overlaid,
instead of short text — so it shows the URL and its box height matches the
others. URL is read from the loaded config (CFG_RELEASE_BASE_URL).

- Catalog block now shows the official catalog as a pinned row #1 (verified
badge + its URL from the generated data). Removing it opens the shared
confirmation dialog with a REQUIRED tickbox (generalized to accept custom
checkbox text) — it only hides official apps from browsing; system updates are
unaffected. Backed by a new CFG_CATALOG_OFFICIAL_ENABLED flag the scan honors.
- Trimmed the info-banner wording per feedback.
- Config option sections: the body (after the divider, before the buttons) now
sits in a darker boxed panel (bg + border), matching the content-box look used
elsewhere. Applies to regular grids + the block editors; scoped to the main
config editor.

Adds the Catalog Sources block to the config editor (General → App Catalogs),
mirroring the domains block UI: add/remove up to 9 catalog URL slots, saved by
the generic config-form (any CFG_* input) → configUpdateBatch, which rebuilds
registry_catalog.json. Official catalog stays source #1 (not editable here);
third-party rows carry an "unverified" note.
- new catalog-manager.js (lean CatalogManager; reuses the domains block CSS,
URL inputs, no DNS checks) + window.addCatalog/deleteCatalog globals.
- config-manager.js routes the general_catalogs subcategory to it.
- system-loader.js loads catalog-manager.js before config-manager.js.

On the app-details Config tab, switching main tabs re-renders the config form
(showAppDetail → displayConfigForm runs on every tab switch). A re-render race
let the enhancer wrap a <select> that was already enhanced, nesting a second
.custom-select inside the first — so the dropdown showed twice, one on top of
the other (reproduced: CFG_<APP>_BACKUP_STRATEGY / _COMPOSE_FILE ended up with
two nested wrappers). The per-element ENHANCED symbol didn't catch it.
Harden the guard with two DOM-based checks (which survive any symbol loss/race):
skip a <select> that already carries the .custom-select-native class or already
sits inside a .custom-select wrapper — in both shouldEnhance() and the
constructor. Port-manager selects were unaffected (they regenerate their
container each render); this fixes the plain form-select fields.

Three coupled defects in the first-run wizard flow, all surfacing as
"it said complete but nothing was set up":
1. Zero-app installs sailed through. With no apps ticked, setup was just
config+finalize, finished in seconds having installed nothing, and
fast-forwarded to an empty App Center. Add a self-contained in-wizard
confirm ("Install with no apps?") before submitting. Can't reuse the
shared confirmation-dialog component — it isn't loaded this early in
boot — so the dialog is rendered by the wizard itself and mounted on
<body> to escape the aurora surface's FX-stacking rule.
2. finalize declared success unconditionally. It never inspected the
per-app install tasks, so a failed app still yielded "your install is
ready" + a redirect. Pass the setup group id to `setup finalize`; it
now rolls up the group's app-install task results and logs a clear
partial/failed verdict. The WebUI completion watcher gates the welcome
toast + App Center hand-off on the whole group succeeding, not just on
finalize completing — a failed app now keeps the user on the tasks page
with an error toast instead of a false all-clear.
3. Setup task count was confusing (banner "of 2" while the page listed 3).
On dev/git installs the topbar's dev-mode auto-enable raced the wizard's
own CFG_DEV_MODE write and spawned a second, un-grouped config-update
task mid-setup. Skip that auto-enable while a setup handoff is active
(the wizard already persists CFG_DEV_MODE); it runs on the next load if
still needed.

The setup-in-progress banner floats over arbitrary page content (the aurora
gradient, apps grid, task logs) but filled at rgba(--bg-rgb, 0.45) with no
backdrop blur, so the page bled through and it looked washed-out. Mirror the
.notification treatment already used for floating toasts: a near-solid panel
(0.85) over a frosted backdrop, plus a lift shadow. Stays theme-aware via
--bg-rgb (near-black on dark themes, near-white on light).

- .tabs-list now rounds its own top corners (12px, matching .tab-navigation);
the first/last .tab-button radii were invisible against the bar's square
background on the Backups/Migrate/Config sub-tab strips.
- All five fleet tabs share one rhythm under the header divider: a single
16px gap, no extra inset — .ov-tab-body drops its recessed margin/padding
box, and the Backups/Migrate sub-tab strips gain the matching gap.
- The Peers list keeps its recessed panel via .peers-body (in-card recipe),
no longer riding the flattened .ov-tab-body.

The grid now also reads apps/generated/registry_catalog.json (optional
data: any failure = no registry cards, never a broken grid) and renders
signed-catalog apps that have no local definition as "Available — Add"
cards: indigo Available pill, teal Official trust badge, and an Add button
that dispatches the app_add task (task-actions/router/format wired). Local
definitions always win on a slug collision; registry cards sort last and
are excluded from the Installed view. No detail page until Add lands the
definition — then the card becomes a normal Install card, repainted by the
app_add branch in the task-completion handler without a manual refresh.
